Black-headed Gull (Larus ridibundus)
Black-headed Gulls are common and widespread, and breed in much of Europe, including Britain. They are a small, pale grey gull with a chocolate brown head during the summer. In winter this becomes a dark smudge behind the eye.
Habitat
Black-headed Gulls breed in colonies on lakes and marshes, both inland and on the coast. They are found almost anywhere inland.
Behaviour
Black-headed Gulls nest on the ground. Like most gulls, they are very sociable and are usually seen in groups. They are rarely seen at sea far from coasts.
Feeding
Black-headed Gulls eat insects, fish, seeds, worms and dead animals.
