Reptiles and Amphibians

Due to its isolation off mainland Europe and cool climate, Britain has a small number of reptiles and amphibians compared to the continent. However, frogs, toads and newts are a familiar sight in gardens and snakes and lizards can often be seen scurrying through grass in the countryside. Unfortunately, destruction of their habitats has reduced their numbers and gardens are now an important refuge for them.
